A legacy Universal Laser machine alongside a new VLS platform
A new platform. Your compatible laser. A familiar way to work.

Plan the move while your machine is still working

Your Universal may still produce good work every day. The reason to consider replacing it now is the electronics: several key components, including the CPU module, are no longer made. If one fails, Universal may be unable to repair or replace it.

The program is optional, and a machine that runs well can keep running. If this is the machine your business depends on, get the replacement cost and compatibility answers before you need them. Planning ahead gives you the opportunity to arrange the change around your work.

Keep the investment that still works for you

One of the lasting advantages of a Universal Laser system is the laser itself. Every VLS platform takes Universal’s ULR laser cartridges from 10 to 75 watts. The PLS6.150D takes two, for up to 150 watts. If yours is compatible with the platform you choose, it can move over, and we confirm that in your review. Through the migration program, eligible owners can buy a new VLS or PLS platform without a laser and bring a compatible ULR cartridge with them.

Keeping your laser cartridge means you do not have to buy another one as part of the move, and it can reduce the cost of upgrading to a current machine.

What you keep

  • Your compatible ULR laser cartridge
  • Your cutting table, in most cases
  • Your existing artwork
  • Your familiar print-from-graphics-software workflow

What you gain

  • Current electronics with a service path
  • A two-year system parts warranty
  • Air assist and a 2.0 lens kit
  • 1-Touch Laser Photo and Direct Import software

The two-year warranty covers the new platform. The laser you bring over keeps whatever coverage it has today. Expect similar job times. The benefit is a supported platform without starting over with your laser and workflow.

Choose the platform that fits your work

The usual matches are below. Any eligible owner can choose any of these four platforms at program pricing, including a larger work area or the two-laser PLS6.150D if it suits the work ahead.

Your machine New platform Work area
M series VLS3.75 24 × 12 in.
V series VLS4.75 24 × 18 in.
X series VLS6.75 32 × 18 in.
X2 series PLS6.150D 32 × 18 in.

Eligible machines include M, V and X series built from 1998 to 2008: M-300, M-360, V-400, V-460, X-600, X-660, X2-600 and X2-660. VL-200, VL-300, C-200, X-25, X-50 and X-100 owners are also eligible. Not sure which model you have? Choose “Not sure” on the form.

Own an X2? Keep both lasers.

Universal has extended the program to dual-laser X2 owners, including the X-660 SuperSpeed. The PLS6.150D has a 32 × 18 in. work area, like the VLS6.75, and takes two lasers for up to 150 watts, so both of your lasers can move over if they’re compatible, which we confirm in your review. If you run SuperSpeed today, the PLS6.150D SuperSpeed engraves two raster lines at once with a matched pair of lasers. Prefer one laser? The VLS6.75 is still an option.

We’ll work through the details with you

  • Laser compatibility: older UL-series cartridges require an exchange for a current ULR cartridge, with a one-year warranty. We quote it in your review.
  • Accessories: a legacy rotary does not fit a VLS or PLS. Moving to a larger platform also means a new cutting table and more floor space.
  • Power: the PLS6.150D needs a 220–240 V, 15 A circuit.
  • Computer: plan for Windows 10 or higher and check your graphics software’s compatibility.
  • An aging laser: ask us to quote migration plus a laser exchange next to a complete new system.

If your machine is a lightly used backup, keeping it running may still be the right decision. We continue to supply wear parts for legacy models. For a machine that carries your daily workload, a quote now gives you a practical plan before an electronics failure interrupts production.
